Types of Benefits
Chapter 31 - Vocational Rehabilitation
This program's primary function is to help veterans with service-connected disabilities become suitably employed, maintain employment, or achieve independence in daily living.
Chapter 33 - Post 9/11 GI Bill®
The Post 9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.
Chapter 35 - Dependents Educational Assistance
The spouse, child, stepchild or adopted child of a veteran who is deceased (service-connected) or who is 100% disabled (service-connected) may qualify for Chapter 35 benefits.
Chapter 1606 - Montgomery GI Bill® - Selected Reserve
This program may be available if you are a member of a selected reserve.
Tuition Assistance (TA)
TA provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty civilian education programs.
Recent updates have been made to TA benefits. Please see below from the VA regarding these changes.
- The Fiscal Year (FY) annual cap has increased from $4,000 to $4,500. This is still a shared cap between Tuition and Credentialing Assistance programs.
- The semester hour cap has increased from 16 to 18 hours.
- First-time TA users must complete ArmyIgnitED 101 training provided by their Army Education Center AND must use the Career Path Decide decision support tool prior to requesting TA.
- Additional updates to policy will follow with the publication of AR 621-5 later this FY.
- For assistance, Soldiers should contact their local Army Education Center.
