The following activities are among those our department uses to ensure that the College Now course has the same orientation as the course taught on campus. 1. A syllabus is provided to each high school teacher in the program for the course offered by that teacher. The teacher understands that the teacher must follow the syllabus and complete all topics listed in the syllabus during the course. 2. The textbook to be used in the course is approved by the department. The mentor discusses the text with the teacher and to be sure that the teacher understands how the textbook is to be used to complete the objectives of the syllabus. 3. Teachers are expected to write their own chapter tests and quizzes, based on sample tests and quizzes provided to the teachers by the mentor. 4. The mentor collects copies of teacher generated tests and quizzes. The mentor evaluates these materials to ensure that they meet the standards for the course. 5. A comprehensive final exam is required for each course. Questions for this final exam are provided by the mentor. Teachers are allowed to add additional questions for the final exam. 6. After the teacher evaluates the students work on the final exam, the completed final exams for all students are sent to the mentor. The mentor evaluates the students work to ensure that it meets the standards for the course on campus. 7. The mentor travels to the school at least once for each course. During these visits the mentor discusses the course with the teacher to ensure that the teacher is meeting the requirements for the course. The mentor may observe the teacher during a class or meet with the students of the class. 8. Mentors are available to answer questions from teachers either by email or telephone. 9. Teachers are expected to attend workshops organized by the department. At these workshops the teachers share ideas with department mentors and other teachers in the program.
