Absent: Mike Rich, Alan Matzner, Nadine Schmidt, Wiji Wijesiri, Scott Crowell, Marcia Beukelman, Carrie Hansen, Michael Cheng and Rhonda Bonnstetter. Agenda: Informational Items: It seems that we do NOT need to have a meeting on May 10th at 10:30. Todays meeting will be our last official meeting of the year. Cancellation of April 11 Lunch and Learn Reschedule in Fall 2013: Could the presentation be a part of the Professional Development Day in August? Jan Loft will check with the Provost on the days schedule. Betsy and Jay shared thoughts and observations of their presentation on the HLC in Chicago. Those present at todays meeting now have a copy of the presentation handout. The presentation was well attended and well done. Action Items: Priority of items for CIA during FY14 Which FY13 activities should we continue to carry into FY14? Assessment mini-grants? We will have Spring 2013 final reports to review in the fall; monies must be spent by June 30th, 2013; Betsy will send a reminder on the expenditures deadline and the required final reports. We are not certain what the budget for future mini-grants will look like. However there was sentiment that we need to continue offering min-grants, at least until the HLC visit has concluded. AHA product reviews will be upcoming. Continue the update of CIA pages through the summer. Other? Process for reviewing assessment data from academic affairs and student affairs for FY14. Developing template for assessment mini-grants final reports for AA, SA, and institutional operations. We need to talk more with Scott Crowell about assessments and Student Affairs. We need to spend more time making those kinds of connections. Linking individual programs student learning outcomes, curriculum map, and assessment plan to CIA page Jay Brown asked about how many courses per semester, randomly selected, should he assess? Up to now, Jay has assessed one course per semester. Long term trends, no, this is not enough data quite yet. If a person assessed every course every semester it would be a full time job. LEP courses will be assessed as part of the AHA process. We will need good examples of course assessments for the HLC; Jays assessments might be posted as good examples, examples that have something to show, data that is useful. We know that the HLC reviewers will expect to find useful assessment data, something that is meaningful. Asking Departments and Programs tell us what you are doing might inform us on what we want to do in the future. There was a general discussion on how many sections of LEP 400 will be needed in the future; maybe a workshop sometime for those interested in teaching LEP 400? We will need to set some deadlines and framework for working through the scientific model; we need to move actions through the pathways from reactants, through catalysts and the products to feedback. This will need to be accessible, overall, and more than just on the t-drive. Alan Matzner and Scott Crowell are now the lead people on the NSSE data. No more surveys this semester is the advice. We have reached the point where we just have to stop for now, everyone has survey fatigue.
