OER/Z-Degree Grant Project Manager
SMSU is the recipient of a $25,000 exploratory grant (written by Julie Walker) to develop at least one Z-Degree program at our university. We are one of 16 colleges and universities currently developing Z-degree programs to join the 11 existing MinnState schools in the Z-Degree offerings. This initial grant provides an opportunity to explore courses that currently use OERs and other zero-cost materials while assessing the opportunities for complete Z-Degrees in our school. Depending on the results of this exploratory period, the next step may include seeking a $100,000 grant to implement Z-Degrees at SMSU.
The exploratory grant requires work outside the current scope of individual faculty positions. We are seeking applications for a Project Manager to fulfill the primary functions necessary for this grant work. Please see the full description (attached) for details regarding the grant requirements, the expectations and duties related to the manager role, and the application materials requested. Please contact Prof. Julie Walker (Julie.walker@smsu.edu) with any additional questions. The Project Manager will receive 3-4 credits of reassignment (amount negotiable based on position factors and faculty assignments) over the 2025-2026 academic year, with an expectation of a heavier workload in the fall semester. Applications are due by May 15; please send them to Marilee Thomas in the Deans’ Office (Marilee.thomas@smsu.edu).
