Behaviors of Concern
While extensive, this listing of behaviors of concern is not all inclusive and covers behaviors that are outside of the normal Code of Conduct procedures:
- Disruptive behaviors within the university setting
- Threatening words or actions toward faculty, students or staff
- Online posting in social media or journals that are threatening
- Uncharacteristic and/or extreme aggression toward others
- Projects or papers that convey possible intentions to harm self or others
- Observed self-injurious behavior, such as extreme thinness, burns, or cuts
- Suicidality, including threats, gestures, ideation, and known attempts of suicide
- Relationship violence
- Stalking
- Aggressive acts toward an identified group or individual
- Students with weapons or an infatuation with fire, firearms, bombs, ammunition or weaponry
- Paranoia or delusions by a student
- Flat affect or extreme lack of responsiveness
- Substance abuse
Other situations may be reviewed by the CARE Team on a case by case basis
- Academic concerns such as excessive class absenteeism and uncharacteristic poor academic performance will be handled by the Deeann Griebel Student Success Center through SMSU’s early alert procedures.
- Disruptive behaviors within the classroom will be covered by the SMSU Disruptive Classroom Management policy. The CARE Team will assist in these situations as requested by Academic Affairs.
