Referring a Student to the CARE Team

To refer a student to the CARE Team, please contact Jessica Bentley, Director of Residence Life, at Jessica.Bentley@SMSU.edu or (507) 537-6136 with the name of the student and a brief narrative of their behavior.  If concern about a student is present, but distressing or disruptive behavior has not been observed, please explain the concern in detail as well.

Please include any information that may be helpful to the team in evaluating the situation, such as: the basic questions, who, what, where, when and why (if applicable); the duration, frequency, severity and/or progression of the behavior; any mitigating circumstances; and actions previously employed by the reporting individual or others to assist the student, change the behavior, or address the situation. 

The CARE. Team meets bi-weekly during the academic year and will review referrals at its next meeting.  If a situation requires immediate attention, an emergency CARE Team meeting will be called.

Be assured that the CARE Team exists to care for students and will handle referrals in a professional manner in an effort to best meet the needs of the student and the SMSU community.
